About the Program

The Meals from the Heart Dinner Program was developed as an additional way to assist our residents by providing them with a home-cooked meal after a long day at the hospital. Groups of friends and business associates use the House’s kitchen facilities to prepare a weekend brunch or daily dinner for the families and children staying at the House.

Food must be prepared on site to ensure safety from possible food poisoning and is a guideline enforced through Ronald McDonald Charities, which oversees every Ronald McDonald House.

As a volunteer of the Meals from the Heart Dinner Program, you will not only help our families but also enjoy team building with your group of friends or business associates.

Some Basics…

  • Due to space restrictions, groups should be no more than 10 people including a supervisor.
  • Youth volunteers need to be 16 years old and must be supervised by an adult.
  • Meals are served buffet style: brunch (10 am to 12 noon) dinner (6 pm).
  • Volunteers are required to provide the following:
    • — A meal for as many as 80 residents – the Director of Volunteers & Programs will confirm the number of families, suggest food choices and explain other restrictions
    • — Disposable aluminum trays for serving
    • — Dessert and milk are optional but welcomed
  • RMH-LI will provide:
    • — Dinnerware and silverware; pots and pans; paper products are optional for seasonal or religious reasons
    • — Coffee, tea and soft drinks
  • Groups must clean up the workspace and all utensils. Dishwashers are available.
  • Please do not expect to interact with families as many of them are exhausted from a long day of dealing with their child’s medical issues and some may still be at the hospital when your group is visiting.

Little Hands Helping Little Hands Program
